| Design Philosophy |
This page describes the design philosophy of The Clambakers Tour & Chowder Kitchen. Site Objectives The original concept behind the Clambakers Tour was to allow players of EASports Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003™ computer game to play competitively against each other no matter what their ability. No other online golf tour allows players to play at any level allowed by the game. The Clambakers Tour is intended to allow members to play at a level that suits them and uses handicaps to even the playing field for all members. The tour is designed to be fun for all and encourages members to become involved by providing a Forum & Chat Room for them to express their views on the tour and to meet other members from around the world for friendly games of computer golf. Alongside the tournaments themselves Clambakers tries to provide links to all the major Cyber Golf sites that can provide members with "add ons" and teaching and advice sites to help them enjoy the game more. The Clambakers Tour was born from being a member of the online golfing community and will always try to give back to that community more than it takes. Design Concepts The site has been designed using three main criteria. 1 - It must be easy for all members to understand, navigate and use. The layout and design of the site has been conceived to allow the user to easily navigate and to always know that they are on The Clambakers site. This has been achieved by the use of css and PHP/MySQL to keep a constant design thread throughout. The use of pictures has been limited because of bandwidth limitations and to allow us to include the more BW hungry Forum and Chat Room. We have optimized the site to 800 x 600 but we do not recommend viewing the site below 1024 x 768. Technology The site is run almost exclusively from a MySQL database using PHP coding. The main non tournament pages utilize css, basic html, php and are updated manually. The tournament pages are however run from a series of "Admin" pages which link directly to the database. These admin pages are multi level password protected to allow different members of staff access only to the parts of the database that they need. The tournaments are all setup to run automatically at set dates set by staff members within the admin pages. If any Award Evaluator would like access to the admin page this can
be arranged. We can only allow access to the admin page however and not
the pages that link to the database. |
